Description

Aprindine hydrochloride is a drug that belongs to the class of cardiac glycosides. It is used for the treatment of congestive heart failure, arrhythmia (atrial and ventricular), and myocardial infarct. Aprindine hydrochloride has been shown to have significant effects on the heart muscle by inhibiting the uptake of calcium ions. This leads to an increase in contractility, which can lead to a decrease in blood pressure and improved circulation. It also has anti-inflammatory properties that are caused by its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis and reduce inflammation.
Aprindine hydrochloride also has antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).
