Salbutamol is a synthetic drug that belongs to the group of drugs called β-agonists. It is used for the treatment of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and other lung diseases. Salbutamol is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that increases the level of cyclic AMP in bronchial smooth muscle cells, leading to bronchodilation. Salbutamol has been shown to have agonistic effects on adrenergic receptors and can be used as a fluorescent marker for such receptors. This drug has also been synthesized for use as a pesticide or an antibody labeling reagent.
