3-Aminopicolinaldehyde is a reactive chemical that has been shown to cause DNA damage and chromosomal instability in cells. 3-Aminopicolinaldehyde is formed from the reaction of ascorbic acid with nitrite or nitrous acid. It binds to DNA and causes oxidative stress, which leads to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). 3-Aminopicolinaldehyde has been investigated for its use in the diagnosis of cancer and cervical cancer. The uptake and pharmacokinetics of this compound have also been studied in humans. The redox potentials of this molecule have been measured in human urine samples, but kinetic data on its redox cycle is lacking.
