Description

Prazosin hydrochloride is a drug that binds to the α1-adrenergic receptors and inhibits the effects of norepinephrine on these receptors. This drug is used in combination with other drugs for the treatment of high blood pressure, prostate problems, and anxiety disorders. Prazosin hydrochloride may be associated with an increase in water vapor loss from the lungs, which can lead to dehydration. It also inhibits the function of ATP-binding cassette transporters, which are involved in drug transport. Prazosin hydrochloride is a potent inhibitor of hepatic uptake transporter (P-glycoprotein) and can be used as a pharmacological agent against multidrug resistance.
Prazosin hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit phosphorylation of growth factor β1 (GFβ1) by inhibiting protein kinase C activity.
