Description:Aldicarb is a chemical pesticide that belongs to the group of carbamates. Aldicarb inhibits the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which controls the production of acetylcholine and regulates muscle contractions. Aldicarb has been shown to have long-term toxicity in humans, as well as being associated with autoimmune diseases. Aldicarb has been found to have high resistance in insects and other organisms due to its ability to bind strongly with ryanodine receptors in cells, blocking calcium release from the sarcoplasmatic reticulum into the cytosol. This leads to an increase in intracellular calcium concentrations and subsequent activation of protein kinases that inhibit protein synthesis, leading to cell death. The matrix effect is also thought to be responsible for this insecticide’s high resistance.
