This molecule also interacts with the cellular membrane by reversible binding, which leads to an increase in the concentration of intracellular nitric oxide (NO). This increase in NO levels inhibits the growth of cancer cells by blocking their ability to produce ATP. 1-Amino-9-fluorenone has been shown to inhibit hCT116 human colon cancer cells.
