4-Azidobenzoic acid is a growth factor that can be synthesized in the laboratory. It has been shown to be active against epidermal growth factor receptor and also inhibits the activity of trypsin. 4-Azidobenzoic acid binds to the hydroxyl group of lysine residues on proteins and is irreversible, which prevents protein synthesis and leads to cell death. This compound has been used for its effects on fat cells in histological analysis and for its ability to inhibit adipogenesis in animal models.
