4-Amino-N-(2-diethylaminoethyl)benzamide hydrochloride (DEAB) is a drug that belongs to the group of pharmacological agents. It has been used as a vasodilator and as an antiarrhythmic agent for ventricular arrhythmias. DEAB blocks the action of DNA methyltransferase, which is involved in the regulation of gene transcription and replication. The drug also increases the activity of procaine by blocking its deactivation by ryanodine receptors, which are located on cells in cardiac muscle. This leads to increased contractility and improved cardiac function. DEAB has been shown to be effective in treating structural heart disease such as chronic myocardial infarction and cardiomyopathy when combined with procainamide.
