Synonyms:
  • 2-Amino-5-cyanobenzotrifluoride

Description:

4-Amino-3-trifluoromethylbenzonitrile is a synthetic chemical that is used as an intermediate in the production of dyes and pharmaceuticals. It is made by reacting carbon disulphide with diazotisation, followed by filtration and extraction with cellulose triacetate. The product is then dissolved in dimethoxyethane to produce a red solution. This solution undergoes nitration using concentrated nitric acid to yield a yellow precipitate, which is then distilled off under reduced pressure to yield the desired product. 4-Amino-3-trifluoromethylbenzonitrile can be used in organic solvents such as sulphone or polyesters.
