Aluminium glycinate is a solid dispersion of aluminium hydroxide, ethylene diamine and sodium carbonate. It is used as a sample preparation agent in surface methodology, such as transcription-polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and immunoassays. Aluminium glycinate has been shown to be an effective pharmaceutical dosage form for use in geriatric patients because it binds to both calcium ions and polyvinylpyrrolidone. The carbonyl group of the polyvinylpyrrolidone can react with the amine groups of the aluminium glycinate to form amide bonds. This will result in a stable structure that can be used for pharmaceutical preparations that are insoluble in water.
