2-Acetyl-3-methylquinoxaline-1,4-dioxide (2AMQ) is a synthetic chemical with antimicrobial properties that belongs to the group of quinoxalines. It inhibits the enzyme activity of DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase, which are involved in protein synthesis. 2AMQ has been shown to have high resistance against bacteria and other microorganisms. This antibiotic has also been shown to be effective against infections caused by Escherichia coli, Shigella sonnei, Salmonella typhi, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Enterobacter cloacae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 2AMQ's pharmacokinetic properties have been studied in humans; it is metabolized by liver enzymes and excreted through the kidneys.
