Amidosulfuron is a sulfonylurea herbicide that inhibits the transcriptional regulation of fatty acid and lipid biosynthesis in plants. It also inhibits the enzymes that catalyze the synthesis of these compounds, including acetyl-CoA carboxylase and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase. The inhibition of these two enzymes leads to an accumulation of acetyl-CoA and pyruvate, which can be used for other metabolic processes. This inhibition causes a decrease in photosynthetic pigments, such as chlorophylls and carotenoids, due to their dependence on fatty acid biosynthesis for their production. Amidosulfuron is absorbed through the leaves into triticum aestivum tissues where it accumulates in the chloroplasts. It blocks the terminal residues of fatty acids by binding to active sites on enzymes that catalyze their synthesis, inhibiting lipid biosynthesis. This effect is enhanced when amidosulfuron is applied
