(-)-Arctigenin is a natural compound that is found in a number of plants. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and hypoglycemic effects, as well as inhibit the activity of the pro-apoptotic protein p53. (-)-Arctigenin interacts with dna binding sites, inhibiting the binding of dna to proteins and causing cell death. (-)-Arctigenin also has an inhibitory effect on P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), both of which are involved in tumor growth. This compound has been shown to induce neuronal death in vitro, which may be related to its ability to bind to DNA and prevent transcription.
