The hydrolytic reaction between L-argininamide dihydrochloride and water produces ammonia, sodium chloride, and ammonium ions. This compound has been shown to be activated by HIV type 1 protease, which is a proteolytic enzyme found in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
