• Description: D-(-)-S-Acetyl-β-mercapto isobutyric acid (DSAB) is an ester of D-(-)sulfuric acid and β-mercapto isobutyric acid. It has been shown to be a potent posttreatment agent for the reduction of residual enzyme activity in pancreatic tissue. DSAB methyl ester can be converted to the corresponding alcohol by lipase or other esterases, which can then be hydrolyzed by an enzyme such as captopril. The resulting product, D-(-)sulfonic acid, is a chiral compound that has optical isomers.
