The 2-aminonicotinic acid methyl ester (2-ANA) molecule is synthesized from 6-aminonicotinic acid and methyl anthranilate in an imine formation reaction. The 2-ANA molecule can then react with furfural or naphthalene to form its corresponding 2-aminoquinone, which has been shown to have anti-tumor activity in vivo.
