Description

Abafungin is a potent antifungal agent that inhibits the synthesis of epidermal growth factor and the synthesis of proteins in the cell wall. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Abafungin also shows strong in vitro activity against Candida glabrata and other fungi, including c. albicans, c. parapsilosis, and c. tropicalis. It is active against bacteria, such as Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus, as well as bacterial spores such as Bacillus subtilis and Clostridium difficile. Abafungin is not active against gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli or Pseudomonas aeruginosa because they are resistant to this drug's hydroxyl group.
