• Description: 2-Aminoindane-2-carboxylic acid is a potent opioid analgesic with a high affinity for kappa-opioid receptors. Molecular modeling studies suggest that it binds to the receptor in an orientation similar to morphine and has a higher binding affinity than morphine. In functional assays, 2-Aminoindane-2-carboxylic acid showed low potency at the delta opioid receptor. It also has been shown to have a high affinity for the kappa opioid receptor and a low affinity for delta opioid receptors, which are associated with respiratory depression. This drug can be made from indole and carboxylic acids or by treating 2 aminoindanone with hydrochloric acid and hydrogen gas.
