It has been shown to have anticancer activity and efficacy in vitro studies against human cancer cells, such as HCT116. This compound also induces apoptosis in infected cells by binding to viral particles and inducing the release of chloride ions. 2-Amino-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-benzothiophene-3-carboxamide has been found to be effective against influenza virus and particle production by inhibiting neuraminidase activity.
