4-Aminophthalonitrile is a monomer that belongs to the group of trifluoroacetic acid. It is polymerized with other monomers to form a film. The 13C NMR spectroscopy shows that it contains methyl groups and no other functional groups. 4-Aminophthalonitrile can be thermally converted into a diazonium salt, which reacts with phthalic acid. This reaction produces methylene dianiline, dimethyl aniline, and nitrous oxide as reaction products. The conversion also leads to the formation of two new bonds, one between nitrogen and carbon and the other between nitrogen and hydrogen. The 4-aminophthalonitrile has vibrational frequencies in the range of 400 - 900 cm-1 and an optical absorption band at about 430 nm.br>br>
