Asiatic acid is a natural compound that belongs to the group of triterpenoids. It has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, which are mediated by the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1 and TNF-α. Asiatic acid also inhibits NF-κB signaling in macrophages and reduces the expression of pro-apoptotic proteins such as Bax and caspase 3. The antiinflammatory activity of asiatic acid has been demonstrated in vivo in mice with skin tumors and it has also been shown to reduce neuronal death induced by oxidative stress. Asiatic acid is able to inhibit cell proliferation via apoptosis pathway.
