It has been shown to have a pharmacokinetic profile in rats and mice with lung diseases, which is similar to that of 4-amino-2-bromobenzonitrile. This ligand inhibits CYP enzymes by competing with endogenous substrates for binding sites on the heme, leading to an increase in the metabolism of drugs such as carbonyl drugs. 4-Amino-3-chlorobenzonitrile also has potent inhibitory effects on efflux pumps in cells and may be used to treat drug resistant bacteria.
