It has been shown to decrease blood glucose levels in a rat model. 4-Amino-3-fluorobenzonitrile binds to the active site of DPP-4, increasing its activity and inhibiting the breakdown of incretin hormones such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). 4-Amino-3-fluorobenzonitrile inhibits glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells, which leads to a decrease in blood glucose levels. The compound also inhibits GLP1 secretion from intestinal L cells, leading to decreased appetite and weight loss. 4-Amino-3-fluorobenzonitrile has been shown to be an agonist with biphenyl, which may explain its agonistic activity.
