Description:2-Acetamidofluorene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that is found in coal tar and cigarette smoke. It has been shown to bind to the dna of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, with high binding activity for the cell nuclei of hepatocytes. 2-Acetamidofluorene also binds to the polypeptide components of DNA, leading to oxidative damage in the cell's protein synthesis machinery. This chemical has been shown to induce liver toxicity in animal studies as well as genotoxic effects in human cells.
