7-Amino-2-bromo-9-fluorenone is a dye that can be used to label or visualize β-amyloid plaques in the brain. It has high binding affinity for β-amyloid, and can be used to identify the presence of this protein in the brain. 7-Amino-2-bromo-9-fluorenone is also useful for monitoring β-amyloid plaques in transgenic mice. This dye was injected into the brains of transgenic mice, and then stained with a fluorescent dye. Autoradiography was then used to identify where 7-Amino-2-bromo-9-fluorenone binds to β amyloid plaques.
