It binds to the fatty acid synthase enzyme of the target insect, which is essential for the production of fatty acids. This leads to a disruption in the synthesis of fats and proteins, causing death by starvation. Allyl 2-furoate also inhibits acetylcholinesterase and phosphodiesterase, which are enzymes that are important for neurotransmitter release and muscle contraction respectively. Allyl 2-furoate is soluble in solvents such as ether, chloroform, benzene, and ethyl acetate. Its molecular weight is 136.2 g/mol with a target tissue of tissues or cells that contain alkene groups (e.g., ovaries).
