Anisoin is a biocompatible polymer that is used in a variety of medical applications. The material has been shown to have optical properties that can be exploited for use in chromatography and other types of chemical analysis. Anisoin also has the ability to bind to creatine, which makes it useful as a filler for tissue engineering applications or as a coating on medical devices. Anisoin is stable at high temperatures, but will decompose when exposed to radiation or cleavage products. This polymer can be synthesized by reacting hippuric acid with hydrochloric acid, and has a molecular weight of about 10,000 daltons.
Anisoin is an aromatic compound that has six carbonyl groups (C=O) and two methylene groups (-CH-). It also contains an isoindole ring structure and two amide groups (-CONH-).
