Product Information
Vasotocin is a peptide hormone that regulates a variety of physiological processes, including blood pressure, water permeability, and locomotor activity. Vasotocin is synthesized from the precursor arginine vasotocin (AVT) by the enzyme polypeptide chain elongation. AVT can bind to two different receptors: one that is inhibitory and one that is excitatory. The inhibitory receptor for AVT can be activated by vasopressin or oxytocin, while the excitatory receptor for AVT can be activated by atrial natriuretic peptide. Activation of both receptors leads to increased blood flow and decreased blood pressure. Vasotocin has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the polymerase chain reaction in human serum and to have a model system in rats.
