Araloside A is a natural compound that belongs to a group of triterpenoid saponin compounds. It has been shown to have an anti-cancer effect in vitro, which is thought to be due to its ability to inhibit the transport of molecules from outside the cell into the cell. Araloside A inhibits the activity of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and blocks DNA synthesis by binding to lysine residues on proteins in the cell. Araloside A also binds to mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, inhibiting electron transfer from cytochrome c oxidase to oxygen, causing pro-apoptotic protein activation and subsequent apoptosis.
