N-(Pyridin-4-yl)acetamide is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have antidepressant properties. It is structurally similar to acetaminophen and pyridoxamine, which are both used as analgesics and antipyretics. N-(Pyridin-4-yl)acetamide has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vivo. This substance also inhibits extracellular nucleotide phosphatase activity, but does not affect the hydrolysis of intracellular nucleotides by amide hydrolase. N-(Pyridin-4-yl)acetamide has also been shown to have anticancer activity in vitro.
