Azepane-2-carboxylic acid is a chiral compound that can be obtained by the asymmetric synthesis of a diamino amide. It has been used to synthesize cyclic imino compounds in high yields and as an oxidizing agent for ruthenium. Azepane-2-carboxylic acid can also be used as a dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of organic substances like carbohydrates, fats, and alcohols to produce energy. This molecule has been shown to have strong acidity due to its carbonyl group. It is also able to act as an acid dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes oxidation of fatty acids with NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) or NADP (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) to form acetyl CoA or acetoacetyl CoA.
