It is an absorber that can be used as a conditioning agent in textile dyeing and other applications. Sodium 1,2-ethanedisulfonate is also used in the production of quinoline derivatives for use as anti-inflammatory agents. This compound has been shown to have beneficial effects on inflammatory bowel disease by preventing the formation of colonic ulcers. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthesis and reduce levels of cholesterol and bile acids in the liver. Sodium 1,2-ethanedisulfonate also has a high chemical stability, which makes it suitable for use in organic synthesis and for removal of metal ions from water or soil. This compound has also been shown to be effective against influenza virus strains H5N1 and H7N9.
