Coriphosphine O is a fluorescent probe that is used in vitro to detect trypsin enzyme activity. It has been shown to be active in the polymerase chain reaction, and can be used as a fluorescent stain for cell nuclei. Coriphosphine O binds to the enzyme trypsin, which breaks down proteins into smaller peptides or amino acids. Binding of coriphosphine O to the active site of trypsin inhibits proteolytic activity, leading to increased fluorescence. This binding can be detected by a monoclonal antibody against coriphosphine O, which will also bind with an anti-trypsin antibody.
