Tetradecyl ether is a cationic surfactant that is used in pharmaceutical preparations as a film-forming polymer and as a substrate for film-forming polymers. Tetradecyl ether also has the ability to react with phosphorus pentoxide to form cationic polymers. This reaction can be used to produce films from glycol esters. In vivo tests have been conducted on Tetradecyl ether and its effects on skin condition, although no data is available yet. Tetradecyl ether reacts with fatty acid, forming an ether group, which gives it properties of an ether. The nmr spectra of tetradecyl ether indicate that it contains one carbonyl group.
