[(Furan-2-yl)methyl]urea (FMU) is a urea derivative that has been synthesized to inhibit cholesterol acyltransferase (CAT). This enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of lipoproteins, which are involved in the transport and storage of cholesterol. FMU inhibits CAT by forming a covalent bond with the catalytic cysteine residue, thereby inhibiting its activity. FMU also has an activating effect on staphylococcus, which may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial amines. It also has an inhibitory effect on platelets, which may be due to its ability to bind to the surface of these cells.
