The binding of 1,3-benzodioxole to the active site of bacterial DNA gyrase may lead to irreversible inhibition of the enzyme. 1,3-Benzodioxole has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in an experimental model and is also active against some fungi and parasites. 1,3-Benzodioxole has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates by interfering with cell wall biosynthesis.
