2-Bromo-4,6-dimethylpyridine is a white solid that belongs to the class of compounds called betaines. It is an organic compound with the molecular formula CHNBr. The crystal structure of 2-bromo-4,6-dimethylpyridine has been determined by X-ray crystallography and it was found that this compound has a pyridinium salt structure. This salt is formed from two molecules of 2-bromo-4,6-dimethylpyridine and one molecule of maleate (CHCOONa). The maleate salt can be used as a coagulant in water treatment facilities or as an anticoagulant in blood transfusions. 2-Bromo-4,6-dimethylpyridine also acts as an enamine because it reacts with thiosemicarbazide in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide
