Product Information
- 1-Heptene, 7-bromo
- 7-Bromohept-1-Ene
7-Bromo-1-heptene is an alkene that can be used in the synthesis of cellulose derivatives. It can also be used as a Grignard reagent to produce magnesium halides and unsaturated alkyls. 7-Bromo-1-heptene can be prepared by reacting bromine with 1,7-octadiene. This reaction produces a mixture of products, including 7-bromo-1-heptene. The bromination reaction is not very efficient, so termination reactions are often required to stop the reaction. Reductive amination is one such termination method that uses an unsaturated alkyl halide to produce the desired product. Chlorine or chloride are often added to reduce the double bond, which may occur during the metathesis reactions.
