The hydroxyl group on 1-benzylglycerol can be reacted with hydroxyl groups on fatty acids, catalyzed by lipase or chemoenzymes, to produce esters. 1-Benzylglycerol has been used in asymmetric synthesis and carbon tetrachloride immobilization reactions.
