5-Bromo-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine is a chemical substance that belongs to the class of indole compounds. It has been shown to be an analgesic agent in mice and rats. 5-Bromo-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine was found to be effective as a topical analgesic in animal models. This drug also has antiinflammatory properties and has been shown to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. 5-Bromo-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine binds to the benzyloxyphenyl group on the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which leads to the production of protonated diclofenac (a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug).
