2-Bromo-5-methylpyridine is a chlorinating agent that reacts with amines, carbonic esters, and hydrogen chloride to form reactive compounds. This compound has been shown to react with calcium stearate in the presence of aryl halides to produce polymeric matrices. The reaction can be used as a model for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. 2-Bromo-5-methylpyridine is also orally active and has been shown to be effective against squirrels in model studies.
