Description:Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu is a prodrug that is metabolized by esterases to form the active compound, boc-Cys(Bzl)-OH. This molecule inhibits matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) activity and can be used for the treatment of viral infections, such as hepatitis C and HIV. Boc-Cys(Bzl)-OSu has been shown to inhibit MMPs in a number of different ways including steric interactions with the active site of MMPs and by binding to the receptor protein for these enzymes. It also has antiviral activity against HIV and other viruses.
