Product Information
Name:Bis[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]ether
Synonyms:
- Tetraethylene glycol
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Bis[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]ether is a fluorescent probe that can be used to detect the presence of hydroxyl groups in glycols, such as ethylene glycol, and glycol ethers. It reacts with these compounds through a transfer reaction to generate new fluorescence. Bis[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]ether is also used in analytical methods to determine the concentration of ethylene glycol in human serum. The compound has been shown to have protease activity against some esterases and lipases, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with the enzyme active site. Bis[2-(2-hydroxyethoxy)ethyl]ether has an increased thermal expansion coefficient relative to other ethers, which makes it useful as a lubricant.
