Podophyllotoxin is a natural product that has been used in the treatment of cancer. Biotin caproic acid is a synthetic analogue of podophyllotoxin and has been shown to have potent antimicrobial activity. Podophyllotoxin is an inhibitor of microtubule polymerization, which leads to cell death. It also induces apoptosis by interacting with dopamine receptors on the cell surface and inhibiting their binding to dopamine. This inhibits dopamine-induced proliferation of cells, leading to cell death. Biotin caproic acid has been shown to have anticancer properties against human cancer cells in vitro. The mechanism of action may be due to binding to the cytochrome P450 enzyme and inhibiting its activity, which affects the metabolism of various drugs and hormones such as dopamine.
