- 5-Bromo-2-Hydroxy-3-Nitrobenzaldehyde
5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzaldehyde is a molecule that has several isomers. The molecule is an imine, which contains a hydroxy group and a nitro group. It has antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria but not against Gram-negative bacteria. 5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzaldehyde interacts with the supramolecular structure of bacterial cells in order to inhibit their growth, thus leading to cell death by apoptosis. The molecule may also have antiinflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.5
5-Bromo-2-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzaldehyde crystallizes as a racemic mixture of optical isomers at room temperature, with the S enantiomer being the faster crystallizing form. This compound has been used in the synthesis of other molecules such as phenylhydrazones and salicylalde
