Description:3-tert-Butylpentane-2,4-dione is a chemical compound that can be synthesized in two steps from benzene, nitromethane and perchloric acid. It is used as a precursor to produce polymers with different properties. In the first step of the synthesis, 3-tert-butylpentane-2,4-dione condenses with nitromethane to form an oligomer. The resulting product is then oxidized to form a perchlorate ester which yields polymers with different properties depending on the type of monomer used.
