Butyl 2-aminobenzoate is the chemical compound with the formula C5H7NO2. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and organic solvents. The hydrochloride salt of butyl 2-aminobenzoate is an antimicrobial agent. This compound was first isolated in 1876 by the French chemist Charles-Adolphe Wurtz from a reaction of phosphorus pentachloride with methyl anthranilate. Butyl 2-aminobenzoate is also known as benzoic acid amide, nitrobenzene, or 1-aminoanthracene. This compound has been shown to have low energy and viscosity properties that make it useful for use in mosquito repellent sprays.
