It is used as an additive in metal surface-cleaning compositions, detergent compositions, and corrosion inhibitor compositions. Butoxytetraglycol is also used in the formulation of cationic surfactant compositions for use as a wetting agent or dispersant for fatty acids, alkynyl groups, and other ingredients. The penetration properties of butoxytetraglycol are dependent on the particle size. Smaller particles penetrate better than larger particles.
