2-(2-Bromophenyl)ethanamine is a new and efficient method for the amination of imines with methyl groups. This process involves the use of catalytic amounts of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) in the presence of 2,6-lutidine to form a cyclic imine intermediate. The reaction is carried out at room temperature and the yield can be as high as 99%. The reaction shown here is an example of an asymmetric amination reaction.
The 2-(2-bromophenyl)ethanamine ligand was used in a study that investigated the mechanism by which ATP hydrolysis drives conformational changes in chiral peptides. It was found that both enantiomers are able to bind to ATP, but only one enantiomer has the ability to induce conformational changes. This suggests that there may be a correlation between chirality and function in proteins.
