Product Information
3-Bromo-2-methylphenol is a linker that is used to form covalent bonds with peptides, proteins and other molecules. It has been shown to be a substrate for the 5-HT6 receptor, which mediates the effects of serotonin on cognition and anxiety. The mutant strain of Polysiphonia was found to have high levels of 3-Bromo-2-methylphenol in its cells. This agent has also been shown to have a pharmacokinetic effect on micelles, which are spherical structures formed by lipids and other amphipathic molecules. Monitoring these micelles provides an opportunity to study the distribution of this molecule in vivo. 3-Bromo-2-methylphenol is broken down into hydroxybenzaldehyde (HBA) using short chain alcohols, such as methanol or ethanol. The HBA can then be monitored using liquid chromatography (LC).
